The Drink Offering — Part I (06-05-22)

Hymns

And Can It Be

Lyrics: Charles Wesley
Music: Thomas Campbell

1.
And can be that I should gain,
An interest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain —
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love, how can it be
That Thou, my God, should die for me?
Amazing love, how can it be
That Thou, my God, should die for me?

2.
’Tis mystery all! Th’ Immortal dies!
Who can explore His strange design?
In vain the firstborn seraph tries
To sound the depths of love divine!
’Tis mercy all! let earth adore,
Let angel minds inquire no more.
’Tis mercy all! let earth adore,
Let angel minds inquire no more.

3.
He left His Father’s throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace;
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam’s helpless race:
’Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me.
’Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me.

4.
Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night,
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray,
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth and followed Thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth and followed Thee.

5.
No condemnation now I dread,
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;
Alive in Him, my living Head
And clothed with righteousness divine,
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown through Christ, my own.
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown through Christ, my own!

Jesus, I Come (Revised)

Writers: Christopher Joel Brown / Steven Furtick; Rev. Ian Konopinski

1.
Oh, how I need Your grace,
More than my words can say;
Jesus, I come; Jesus, I come;
I need Your faithfulness,
I need Your righteousness,
Jesus, I come; Jesus, I come.

2.
Oh, what amazing love,
Poured out Your cleansing blood,
Oh, Lamb of God, Jesus, I come;
Within this boundless flood,
I find You are enough,
Oh, Lamb of God, Jesus, I come.

Chorus
Oh, this love, can it be,
You, my Lord, would die for me?
By Your blood, now I come
To the throne of God above!

3.
Out of all my weakness,
Out of all my darkness,
Bright, Heaven’s Sun, Jesus, I come;
In Your light now I see,
Jesus, You’re all I need;
Bright, Heaven’s Sun, Jesus, I come!

Bridge
Thank You, Jesus,
Just as I am, I come;
Hallelujah,
For Your amazing love.

Message

“The Drink Offering”

Message given by Rex Beck on June 5, 2022

Philippians 2:17–18 (NKJV)
17Yes, and if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. 18For the same reason you also be glad and rejoice with me.

The believers are to be a living sacrifice

Romans 12:1–2 (ESV)
1
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Paul had a close relationship to the Philippians

Philippians 1:3–7
3
I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, 4always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, 5because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. 6And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. 7It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel.

The drink offering with Jacob

Genesis 35:9–15
9God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Paddan-aram, and blessed him. 10And God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; no longer shall your name be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name.” So he called his name Israel. 11And God said to him, “I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations shall come from you, and kings shall come from your own body. 12The land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you, and I will give the land to your offspring after you.” 13Then God went up from him in the place where he had spoken with him. 14And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he had spoken with him, a pillar of stone. He poured out a drink offering on it and poured oil on it. 15So Jacob called the name of the place where God had spoken with him Bethel.

The drink offering with Moses

Numbers 15:2–5
2“Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When you come into the land you are to inhabit, which I am giving you, 3and you offer to the Lord from the herd or from the flock a food offering or a burnt offering or a sacrifice, to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering or at your appointed feasts, to make a pleasing aroma to the Lord, 4then he who brings his offering shall offer to the Lord a grain offering of a tenth of an ephah of fine flour, mixed with a quarter of a hin of oil; 5and you shall offer with the burnt offering, or for the sacrifice, a quarter of a hin of wine for the drink offering for each lamb.
