In Order That I May Gain Christ — Pt. 2 (09-19-21)

Hymns

You Are

Written by Jason Ingram, Reuben Morgan

1.
You are good, You are good
When there’s nothing good in me;
You are love, You are love
On display for all to see;
You are light, You are light
When the darkness closes in,
You are hope, You are hope,
You have covered all my sin.

2.
You are peace,You are peace
When my fear is crippling;
You are true, You are true
Even in my wandering;
You are joy, You are joy,
You’re the reason that I sing;
You are life, You are life,
In You death has lost its sting.

Chorus
Oh, I’m running to You, Lord,
I’m running to You, Lord,
Jesus, all You are will always be enough,
Capture my heart and keep it true,
All that I need is found in You.

3.
You are more, You are more
Than my words can ever say;
You are Lord, You are Lord,
All creation will proclaim;
You are here, You are here,
In Your presence, I’m made whole;
You are God, You are God,
Of all else I’m letting go.

Bridge
My heart will sing no other name
Jesus, Jesus.

There Is Always Something Over

Words: Margaret E. Barber
Music: Robert Lowry

1.
There is always something over,
When we taste our gracious Lord;
Every cup He fills o’erfloweth,
Rich supply He doth afford.
Nothing narrow, nothing stinted,
Ever issued from His store;
To His own He gives full measure,
Running over, evermore.

2.
There is always something over,
When we, from the Father’s hand,
Take our portion with thanksgiving,
Praising for the things He planned.
Satisfaction, full and deepening,
All our need He doth supply,
When the heart has tasted Jesus
Its desires to satisfy.

3.
There is always something over,
When we share in all His love;
Unplumbed depths still lie beneath us,
Unscaled heights rise far above.
Human lips can never utter
All His wondrous tenderness.
We can only praise and wonder
And His Name forever bless.

Nearer, My God, To Thee!

Words: Sarah Flower Adams
Music: Lowell Mason

1.
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!
E’en though it be a cross
That raiseth me;
Still all my song would be:
“Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!”

2.
Though like the wanderer,
The sun gone down,
Darkness comes over me,
My rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I’d be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!

3.
There let the way appear,
Steps unto heav’n;
All that Thou sendest me,
In mercy giv’n;
Angels to beckon me
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!

4.
Then, with my waking thoughts
Bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs
Bethel I’ll raise;
So by my woes to be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!

5.
There in my Father’s home,
Safe and at rest,
There is my Savior’s love,
Perfectly blest;
Age after age to be
Nearer my God to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!

“In Order That I May Gain Christ — Pt. 2”

Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ . — Philippians 3:8

“Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. — Matthew 25:1–4

The Christ we Receive in Salvation

— The Accomplisher of our Redemption and Justification

Colossians 1:14
14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Romans 5:9
Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.

— Christ who is Present in Time and Present with Us

Matthew 28:20
20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

2 Timothy 4:16–17
16 At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them! 17 But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion’s mouth.

— Christ who leads us

Acts 5:31
31 God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

Romans 8:14
14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

— Christ is engraved on our hearts

2 Corinthians 3:3
And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
