The book of Ruth takes place in the time of the judges. It is like a breath of fresh air in a fetid swamp. Ruth, a woman from Moab, married a Jew who had come to Moab with his family. After her husband died, she chose to leave her country and her family and return to the land of Israel with her mother-in-law. She worked nobly in Bethlehem doing a menial job where she eventually met and married Boaz (who was her deceased husband’s relative). Both she and Boaz honored God and lived in his blessings. They both became ancestors of King David and eventually of Jesus Christ.
