1 Chronicles records the genealogy of David and the priests and picks up David’s story after the death of Saul. It recounts David’s ascension to the throne over all Israel, his battles, and his prayer to build God a house. It details the ending years of David’s life when he instructed the Levites concerning how to serve in the temple, received a spiritual clarity of the temple design, collected materials for the temple construction, and prepared the people to help Solomon in the great temple building endeavor. Furthermore David found the site where the temple should be built by realizing that the altar where he sacrificed to stop the death angel from slaying, is the site of the altar God desires.
