Amos is a prophet to the northern kingdom of Israel during the days of Uzziah and Jeroboam II, contemporaneous with Hosea. He prophesies the impending judgment of God upon the northern and in lesser ways southern kingdom. Amos makes clear that just as a lion only roars when there is prey, there is no way out of this judgment and that the best is for those who remain to seek Jehovah. Eventually, Amos prophesies, God will raise up the booth of David that the Jews will possess the gentiles and the gentiles will be called by the name of the Lord. The Jews and Gentiles will be God’s people.
